An aerial view of the Allen County Fairgrounds from the early 1950s. At the upper left, the ballpark of the minor league Lima Phillies can be seen. The 2,750-seat ballpark was built on five acres leased from the Lima Agricultural Society. The ballpark served an important role at the 1950 fair, the first held at fairgrounds. “Toilet facilities in the Lima Phillies baseball park will be used on the north end of the fairground, but temporary toilets are erected on the south portion,” the Lima News reported August 20, 1950. “Shower facilities in the baseball park will be made available to concessionaires, junior fair youths and workers on the grounds during the week.” The ballpark was demolished around 1958.
