Kent E. McClain’s photo from Central High School’s yearbook. McClain, born in Lima in 1916, was the son of Frank McClain, who was the city’s mayor from 1939 to 1943. McClain served in the European Theater of Operations. By March 1945, his unit was in Germany, from where he wrote home in March 1945. “Don’t worry about those German prisoners,” he reassured his family. “They aren’t the supermen you read about and then I always have my carbine ready to use. They are happy to be prisoners though and with a few exceptions may be glad to stay as our prisoners.”
