“Santa Claus is usually known to travel by sleigh from his headquarters at the North Pole,” the Lima News wrote in the caption of this photo from early December 1987. “But the jolly old elf traveled to Lima Wednesday via the Grand Trunk Railroad (formerly the D.T.&I.) and made a stop at North Sugar Street. Santa brought officials of the railroad, who sponsor the yearly event, to meet with railroad employees and their families in addition to the public. A locomotive and two distinctive passenger cars brought the crew to the city from Springfield.”
